Malaria Campaign
One of NELICO Programmes is the Malaria Project implemented within Geita district. As a child rights based organization, the fight against malaria is very essential/inevitable for the statistics illustrate that many people who die of malaria are children including orphans and most vulnerable children. According to the Tanzania Ministry of Health statistic after every 5 minutes a child under 5 years die with Malaria, the organization emphasize more on the prevention against malaria and carries a number of activities with the support of field staff, community volunteers and Community Change Agents (CCA). These activities include:
- Awareness education on the proper use of malaria mosquito nets,
- Mass education on proper prevention of malaria to pregnant women,
- Appropriate treatment/medication of malaria,
- Appropriate application of anti-mosquito sprays,
- Indoor Residual Spray,
- Awareness campaign through cultural groups and various sports and games which bring together many people,
- Mass awareness through dialogues and learning materials like leaflets/brochures, and
- Trainings of health education focusing on malaria prevention to CCA and the community members.
